At least five Taliban militants have been killed in a gunfight with security forces in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar, officials said Saturday.

Five Taliban rebels were killed and six arrested during the gunfight Friday, the Afghan defence ministry said in a statement.

Arms and ammunitions were seized from the site, it said.

At least 4,000 people have been killed in insurgency related violence till date this year in Afghanistan.
