New newspaper for the Indian diaspora in Singapore

From correspondents in Singapore, Singapore, 03:02 PM IST

Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) Friday said it will launch a new weekly English newspaper, christened 'tabla!', for the Indian diaspora here.

The newspaper, which will hit the market Oct 10, will be distributed free.

It will be the 16th title from the SPH stable and will be published by Tamil Murasu Ltd, the wholly-owned SPH subsidiary that publishes the Tamil daily Tamil Murasu in Singapore, a company statement said.

Besides, focusing on news on India, it will also provide developments in Singapore that concerns the growing Indian community there.

While tabla! is a free newspaper, readers can get it delivered to their homes on Friday mornings for a delivery charge of $28 a year.

'Our challenge is to cater to the diverse interests of the Indian diaspora here - ranging from current affairs to entertainment news, from personal finance to sports," Rajendran Jawharilal, tabla!'s editor said.

tabla! will be officially launched Oct 11 at the Overseas Indians Conference or Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD Singapore) being held at Suntec City.
