Lalu Prasad flags off special train for poor passengers

From correspondents in Delhi, India, 12:05 AM IST

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Thursday flagged off the New Delhi-Mumbai Garib Rath superfast express train for poor passengers here, asking them to be vigilant in the wake of Sunday's blasts on Samjhauta Express that killed 68 people.

The train, which will run between Nizamuddin in New Delhi and Bandra in Mumbai, provides AC 3-tier sleeper class fare for Rs.667 and chair car for Rs.552.

Speaking on the occasion, Prasad said: 'I appeal to you to be more careful about your luggage. Four days ago some people played mischief and our brethren from Pakistan were the victims.'

The railway minister's warning came apparently in the backdrop of Sunday's disastrous terror attack on the Samjhauta Express link train near Panipat in Haryana.

This is the fourth of the series of Garib Raths promised by the railway minister in his budget speech last year. On Wednesday, a similar train between Chennai and New Delhi was flagged off by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
