The Indian equities markets closed in the red Tuesday.

The 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex opened at 17,441.41 points and touched a high of 17,502.15 before closing at 17,373.01. At the day's close, it went down by 117.89 points or 0.67 percent compared to the closing figure Monday.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S and amp;P Nifty, which opened at 5,192.35 points, closed at 5,144.65, going down by 47.60 points or 0.92 percent from its previous close.
