The Indian equities markets, which had opened with an upswing Monday, turned flat early afternoon.

At 12:30 p.m. the 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, was trading at 16,454.05 with a gain of 38.48 points. It touched a high of 16,632.72 and a low of 16,431.89 points earlier in the day.

At the same time, the S and amp;P Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was trading at 4,857.80 points with a loss of 12.30 points or 0.25 percent.

The market breadth remained positive. On BSE, 1,203 stocks advanced, 1,168 declined and 69 remained unchanged.
