Equity markets stay flat in early trade

Indian equities markets were trading flat early Friday, with selling pressure on some realty and power stocks.

The 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, opened with a gain of 33.99 points at 13,127.10. Ten minutes into trading, it reached 13,150.56, a gain of 56.45 points or 0.43 percent from its closing figure Thursday.

At the same time, the S and amp;P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was trading at 3,942.25 points with a gain of 16.50 points or 0.42 percent from its last close.

The market breadth was negative. On BSE, 525 shares advanced, 564 declined and 26 remained unchanged.

Reliance Communication, Jaiprakash Associate and BHEL were among the major gainers while Tata Steel, ACC Ltd and ONGC were among the losers in initial trade.

Other Asian markets were trading lower.
