Tata Communications Ltd, part of the $55 billion Tata group, Wednesday announced a net profit of Rs.983 million ($23.4 million) for the first quarter of 2008-09 against Rs.1.29 billion of the year-ago period.

The company's total revenue, however, increased to Rs.9.21 billion during the quarter compared to Rs.8.88 billion over the same period last year.
