Here's some good news for residents of Chandigarh. The city administration has decided to introduce LPG-run auto-rickshaws on the city roads from Aug 31, 2009, to curb pollution.
'The authorities have decided to phase out diesel and petrol-run auto-rickshaws from the city by Aug 31, 2009. We will replace these with LPG-run auto-rickshaws. The administration has fixed the limit of LPG auto-rickshaws to 3,000,' said the spokesman for the Chandigarh administration.
The administration has decided not to renew permits of petrol and suiesel-run auto-rickshaws beyond Aug 2009. After that date, only LPG-run auto-rickshaws would be allowed on the city roads, the official said.
