Tata Motors removes 300 temporary employees in Jamshedpur

From correspondents in Jharkhand, India, 01:03 PM IST

Auto major Tata Motors has asked 300 temporary employees at its Jamshedpur unit not to report for duty from Monday.

Of them, 100 belong to the truck division, and 200 to the engine division.

Tata Motors said the decision had nothing to do with the current global economic meltdown and added that asking temporary staff to stay away was normal. 'It is a routine affair and it has nothing to do with the global economy,' company spokesperson P.J. Singh told IANS.

'This is not first time we have asked temporary employees not to come on work. On rotation temporary employees are given work. Last month, we also regularised services of 250 temporary employees,' he said.
