Air India flights to Bangkok diverted

From correspondents in Delhi, India, 08:30 PM IST

Air India flights to Bangkok were Wednesday diverted as Thai protesters stormed the Suvarnabhumi International Airport, disrupting flight movements, said an airline official here.

Four Air India flights were diverted and landed at Utapao airport, about 90 nautical miles off Bangkok, and passengers were taken from there to Bangkok by road, the official said.

Reports from Bangkok said outbound flights at the airport were also affected since Tuesday night as hundreds of demonstrators broke through security and entered into the passenger terminal.

An Air India flight from Kolkata to Bangkok was diverted back to Kolkata, said the official.
