HDFC Bank Thursday reported a 33.9 percent increase in its net profit to Rs.6.31 billion for the quarter ended March 31, compared to Rs.4.71 billion in the same period a year before.

The total income rose 53 percent to Rs.537 billion in the period under review compared to Rs.351 billion in the same quarter the previous year, HDFC said in a regulatory statement.

The bank and its affiliates' consolidated profits surged 40.9 percent to Rs.225 billion for the fiscal ended March 31, 2009 compared to Rs.159 billion the year before.

The total income too increased 58 percent to Rs.198 billion as against Rs.125 billion.
