Doctors, paramedics and other health officials have started screening international passengers at the the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here for the swine flu virus.

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the developer of the IGI airport, Thursday said eight counters have been set up at the airport for medical screening with each counter being manned by one doctor and two nurses.

'They (health officials) are available round-the-clock at the international terminal,' a DIAL spokesperson said.

Passengers from the US, Canada and Mexico and those who had visited these swine flu-infected countries in the last 10 days are requested to report at the health desk for thorough screening, the official said.

'Advanced life saving ambulances are also available with paramedics round-the-clock at the airport,' the spokesperson added.

The IGI Airport also has a modern Yellow Fever Hospital and quarantine facility within the airport complex.

The government has stepped up surveillance at all major airports in the country following the outbreak of the swine flu in Mexico and the US, and seven other countries.
