Sensex up 0.37 percent in early trade

A key Indian equities index rose 0.37 percent in early trade Tuesday with heavy weight stocks gaining.

The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened at 16,984.54 points but soon rose to 17,045.54 points, up 62.4 points or 0.37 percent from its previous close, within 10 minutes of trade.

Around the same time, at the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S and amp;P CNX Nifty was at 5,087.2 points, against the previous close at 5,066.7 points, a gain of 0.4 percent.

Broader market indices were also in the green, with the BSE midcap index up 0.57 percent and the BSE small cap index ruling 0.73 percent higher.
