Sugar gets cheaper in Delhi

From correspondents in Delhi, India, 08:00 PM IST

The Delhi government Wednesday decided to waive the 12.5 percent value added tax on sugar imports, a move that authorities believe will bring down its price in the capital.

'The exemption will stabilise the price of sugar,' Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said.

Sugar prices have shot up in the city. A kilogram of sugar costs around Rs.40.
