Exploiting the creative side of the disabled

From correspondents in West Bengal, India, 01:00 PM IST

Graphic designers from as far apart as Mauritius, Seychelles, Costa Rica and Philippines conducted a weeklong workshop here for hearing and speech impaired children

The workshop concluded Saturday. It was organised by Arena Animation, the multimedia training wing of Aptech Global Learning Solutions Limited, for Udayan, a non-government organisation.

'Being physically challenged does not mean one has run out of creativity. We are trying to exploit the creative side of these children so that they too can start an independent career,' Aptech's chief executive officer and managing director Pramod Khera told IANS.

The workshop attended by around 100 children dealt with computer fundamentals, graphic designing, sketching and cartooning.

French author Dominique Lapierre and Australian cricketer Steve Waugh are the chief patrons of Udayan that was founded by J.G. Stevens.
