Student refuses worm-infested food, thrashed

From correspondents in Bihar, India, 03:30 PM IST

An eight-year-old school student broke his elbow after teachers allegedly thrashed him for refusing to eat worm-infested mid-day meal in a village in Bihar.

Hashmullah Ansari, a Class 3 student of an Urdu primary school at Shripur Bhatwalia village in East Champaran district, about 200 km from here, was allegedly assaulted Wednesday after he declined 'khichdi'.

'My son was punished for refusing to eat worm-infested food. His elbow was fractured,' said the student's father Razi Alam Ansari in a complaint lodged with the district magistrate.

Razi said an inquiry conducted by a member of the village council found that his son's elbow was fractured due to beating by teachers.

He demanded action against three teachers, Afroz Alam, Akhlaqur Rahman and Anil Kumar.
