No takers for politics during Kalam's interaction

Most of the students who attended former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's interactive session here Tuesday evening raised their hands when he asked them if they wanted to become engineers, doctors or bureaucrats. However, no one responded when he asked if any of them wished to become a politician.7:31 AM on June 18

The nonresponse is quite understandable. The harsh reality about Indian democracy is it is even worse than what it was in Britain three hundred years ago with drinks and money to voters, while rifraff found it easy to rule the roost. The political space in India is already filled,as everyone knows, with criminals at different stages of being booked to justice.Decent, simple and suave educated people are too scared to enter this 'fight to death',not fighting poll.

Politics is too important a field to be surrendered fully to the politicians.
