Varsity law teacher in police net for land fraud

From correspondents in Uttar Pradesh, India, 02:02 AM IST

One would expect a law professor to stay on the right side of the law but an academic at the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University has been booked by the Uttar Pradesh police for duping two people by selling them the same piece of land.

'An FIR (first information report) has been registered against Iqbal Hadi as two parties approached the police today (Saturday) claiming that he had sold the same (piece of) land to both of them by forging the land deed documents,' police officer Lakshman Rai told IANS.

An investigation into the case has been initiated, he added.

The land in question is in the upmarket Civil Lines neighbourhood of Aligarh, over 360 km from Lucknow, the officer said.
