School buses in Chandigarh will have speed governors from Dec 1 so that they are not able to go beyond a speed of 40 km per hour, an official said Wednesday.

'As a preventive measure to restrict the accidents of school buses in Chandigarh, the administration has made it mandatory to install speed governors by bus operators of all school buses.

'The speed governor will be set in such a way that the vehicle is incapable of being driven at a speed in excess of the maximum speed of 40 km per hour,' a spokesman of the administration here said.

He added that the speed governor would be sealed by the State Transport Authority (STA) here to curb any tampering. The mandatory annual certification of the buses will be done only if they have speed governors, he said.
