Indians, Chinese and Davos

By Arvind Padmanabhan. Europe, 09:33 PM IST

India and China are the two main flavours at the Davos meeting - at least for the 100-plus Indian delegation, which has converged on this ski resort in the Swiss Alps, some 250 km away from Zurich.

The best Chinese restaurant here at Hotel Europe was virtually taken over by the Indian team - which was seen gorging on essentially Szechuan and Cantonese food amid gulps of green tea.

If Anil Ambani and his wife Tina were in a quiet corner with ICICI Bank chairman K.V. Kamath, former bureaucrat N.K. Singh and Industry Secretary Ajay Dua were seen enjoying what seemed like a lively discussion.

Malvinder Singh, Rahul Bajaj's family and India Brand Equity Fund's Jayant Bhuyan were others who enjoyed a delectable meal, while those like Confederation of Indian Industry's (CII) Ajay Khanna weren't too lucky since no table was free.
