EU condemns attack on Indian embassy in Kabul

From correspondents in Brussels, Belgium, 09:30 PM IST

European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana has denounced the terrorist attack outside the Indian Embassy in Kabul Monday that killed more than 40 people, including five staff members of the Indian Mission, and left hundreds injured, EuAsiaNews reported.

'I hope that the Afghan Government will find and bring to justice those behind this barbaric act,' Solana said in a statement.

'Such actions, which are clearly intended to undermine the process of stabilization and reconstruction in Afghanistan, will achieve nothing,' he added.

Solana conveyed his 'most sincere condolences and deepest sympathy' to the families of the victims and to the Afghan and Indian authorities.

'The European Union remains fully committed to long-term support for the people and government of Afghanistan in their efforts to build a democratic and stable state,' Solana maintained.
