Actress Thandie Newton defends pop superstar Madonna's tepid movie career saying she is 'gifted' and will be remembered for being a 'good actress'.

Contactmusic.com reports that Thandie believes critics don't fully know Madonna's potential. Madonna in the past received good reviews for her role in the 1985 movie "Desperately Seeking Susan' and won a Golden Globe for her role in "Evita" in 1997.

But her recent movies have been woefully unsuccessful.

Newton said: "Actually I think Madonna is a great actress and it's only in years to come that people will see that. But for me, she is truly gifted."
