Former Real Madrid president held on fraud charge

From correspondents in Madrid, Spain, 12:33 PM IST

Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz was arrested with two other suspects in the Spanish city of Cordoba for alleged fraud, police said Saturday.

No further details were made public.

Sanz was at the head of Real Madrid 1995-2000, and he is currently the owner of the La Liga club Malaga.

This is not the first time that the 65-year-old Sanz has been suspected in a case of fraud.

He was already subjected to investigation in 1999, over the re-zoning of a plot of land near Madrid.
