129 Jharkhand doctors on strike sacked

From correspondents in Jharkhand, India, 01:01 PM IST

The Jharkhand government has dismissed from service 129 striking doctors here.

Health Minister Bhanu Pratap Sahi gave the order Wednesday night after the expiry of the government deadline to the doctors, who were working on contract, to return to work.

The doctors went on strike May 26 demanding that their services should be regularised. The doctors also wanted to be exempted from written examination.

According to the government, a total of 620 doctors were working on contract in Jharkhand.

The Indian Medical Association's Jharkhand unit has threatened to go to the court against the dismissals.
