Patient's mother wants Venugopal to stay on as AIIMS chief

From correspondents in Delhi, India, 01:00 AM IST

Mira Mishra, mother of a nine-year-old heart patient, Thursday urged the Delhi High court Thursday to extend All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) director P. Venugopal's tenure by six months.

Moving a petition, Mishra said if the renowned cardiologist retired July 2, when his tenure ends, he might not be available to treat her son.

She also said her son's treatment was severely affected when Venugopal was earlier removed from his post. He was later reinstated in his position following an apex court ruling.

The high court is likely to hear the case Friday.
