From correspondents in Gujarat, India, 11:32 PM IST

The Gujarat Imaging Centre (GIC) and GE Healthcare have announced the state's first Molecular Imaging Centre here to address the growing oncological diagnostic needs.

GIC is the only centre in Gujarat with molecular imaging expertise with nuclear medicine imaging services. The Molecular Imaging Centre will cater to patients from Gujarat and parts of Rajasthan, V. Raja, president and amp; CEO of GE Healthcare South Asia, told mediapersons Tuesday.

'Molecular imaging techniques are helping physicians to choose suitable medications for a particular patient, predict and monitor the effects of those medications and personalise patients' treatment which helps in a more efficient and superior quality treatment of cancer, cardiovascular diseases or neurological disorders,' said Raja whose firm is a $17 billion enterprise of General Electric Company Worldwide.

The GIC, a radiology-based diagnostic unit here, is also planning to set up a 100-bed hospital here at a cost of Rs.400 million.
