Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Arjun Singh's health has improved 'considerably' and he is likely to be discharged by Thursday, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said Tuesday.

'He has shown considerable progress. He is far better now,' D.K. Sharma, AIIMS medical superintendent, told IANS.

'We have stopped giving oxygen that we used to give occasionally in earlier days. He is likely to be discharged from hospital in three days,' Sharma added.

The 78-year-old Congress leader was admitted to the AIIMS July 30 after being diagnosed with gall bladder stones, left ventricular failure and a host of other problems.

The heart has four chambers and the two lower chambers are called ventricular chambers.

Singh also suffers from diabetes, coronary artery disease, diabetic nephropathy (kidney related problems) and chronic obstructive airways disease, Sharma explained.

However, Sharma said: 'Now all his vital parameters are normal. He is responding well to medication.'

A team of doctors headed by T.K. Chattopadhyay, head of the department of gastrointestinal surgery, and Chandra Lekha, head of the department of intensive care, are attending on the minister.
