UPSC asked to release candidates' results

From correspondents in Delhi, India, 09:31 PM IST

The Central Information Commission Monday asked the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to release the marks of all candidates who appeared for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination this year and declare the cut-off within two weeks.

The order comes on a petition filed by more than 2,000 aspirants who call themselves Transparency Seekers.

The petitioners described the move as a 'small victory' as the UPSC had refused to furnish model answers to question papers stating it was part of their intellectual property rights.

The aggrieved candidates had filed an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act in September after the UPSC rejected opening its recruitment process and said it was not ready to show the cut-off marks for selection of candidates.

In their petition, Transparency Seekers demanded that information be shared on cut-off marks, model answers and individual marks pertaining to the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2006.
