Another soldier in Kashmir commits suicide

From correspondents in Jammu and Kashmir, India, 01:00 PM IST

Yet another soldier has committed suicide in Jammu and Kashmir. Pradeep Yadav shot himself inside a heavily guarded camp of the anti-insurgency Rashtriya Rifles in Baramulla district, police said Thursday.

Yadav killed himself with his service rifle Wednesday night inside the headquarters of the 55 Rashtriya Rifles in Apalna village in Baramulla, 60 km from here.

Yadav died before he could be taken to hospital, a police official said. The reason behind the suicide is not yet known and an inquiry has been ordered.

This is the third incident of suicide in the past 20 days - a trend that is worrying senior security officers.

Officials here attribute the growing tendency to the continuous deployment of troops in extremely hostile circumstances. Authorities have recently sought the help of yoga experts to tackle stress.
