ICICI officials booked for abduction

From correspondents in Madhya Pradesh, India, 09:31 PM IST

Two ICICI bank officials were booked for kidnapping a loan defaulter in Indore, police said Friday.

'Two senior ICICI officials were booked in Indore Thursday for abducting a loan defaulter from his house and keeping him hostage in the bank premises,' a police official said.

Vikas Porwal, a resident of Ujjain, had taken a loan from the ICICI bank branch in Indore a few months ago for purchasing a Qualis jeep but he defaulted in paying two instalments.

At this, the bank's recovery manager Harmeet Singh and recovery executive Neeraj Sharma reached Porwal's house, picked him up and kept him hostage at the bank premises.

Police got information about the same and freed Porwal from the bank located at the Teen Batti square in Indore.

'We have freed Porwal from the bank's office and registered a case under section 365 of the Indian Penal Code against both the accused on the compliant of the victim,' Indore Police Superintendent Jaideep Prasad told IANS by phone.

The Supreme Court, it may be recalled, has warned banks, financial institutions and their recovery agents against using strong-arm tactics or indulge in criminal activities to recover outstanding amount from defaulters.
