Pakistani troops Wednesday violated the 2003 ceasefire agreement and fired on Indian positions near the Line of Control (LoC) that divides Jammu and Kashmir between the two countries, a military spokesperson here said.

Terming it the first violation of the bilateral ceasefire agreed to in December 2003, Lt Col A.K. Mathur said the incident took place in the Tangdhar sector of the LoC in north Kashmir.

India, he said, had lodged a strong protest with Pakistan on the incident.
