Maoists shoot three in Jharkhand

From correspondents in Jharkhand, India, 06:00 PM IST

Three people, including two women, were shot dead by suspected Maoist guerrillas and their bodies were recovered Thursday from Hazaribagh national park, the police said.

According to the police, the three bodies were found by villagers in the national park area.

The two women were abducted from Ichak block of Hazaribagh district Tuesday by guerrillas of a Maoist group, Jharkhand Liberation Tiger (JLT).

JLT abducted the women as they suspected them to be members of another smaller Maoist group, Jharkhand Prastuti Committee (JPC). Both JPC and JLT are at loggerheads in Hazaribagh, Chatra and other parts of the state and fighting for supremacy.

According to the police, the three people were shot by the JLT Maoist group Wednesday and their bodies were thrown in the national park area.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
