A man, obsessed with having a son, killed his wife after they had three daughters in a village in the border district of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir, the police said Sunday.

Mohammad Panzeer was arrested Saturday, over a month after he killed his wife Zaheeda and quietly buried her.

A woman who saw the injury marks on the body of Zaheeda told the locals, who informed the police. The police exhumed the body and the post-mortem report revealed that Zaheeda had died of injuries.

Panzeer was desperate for a male child. He blamed Zaheeda for not giving birth to a male child and in a fit of rage, he beat her to death with a rod, a police official said.
