Mahesh Bhupathi of India and Jie Zheng of China beat Indian Leander Paes and Nadia Petrova of Russia 7-5, 6-4 in a closely fought first-round match in the French Open at Roland Garros Sunday.

The Indo-Chinese pair will now meet sixth seeded pair of Cara Black of Zimbabwe and Australian Paul Hanley who beat Elena Likhovtseva and Daniel Nestor 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.

In boys singles,Yuki Bambri made an early exit suffering a 2-6, 1-6 defeat against French Guillaume Rufin in the opening round.
