Institute for plants wins international award

The Lucknow-based Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) has received the International Golden Peacock Eco Innovation Award 2008 for its agriculture and environmental projects.

'The award is given for outstanding contribution to environment management. CIMAP bagged the award for its research and development projects related to developing eco-friendly urea, viable alternatives to chemical fertilisers and bio-remediation of salt- and heavy metals-affected fields,' CIMAP's spokesperson and senior scientist A.K. Singh told IANS Friday.

He said that there were 225 nominations for the Golden Peacock award in different categories.

CIMAP, which has eleven patents in the area of safeguarding, protecting, improving and adding value to the environment, is undertaking a project for the betterment of the environment, an official said.
