One person was killed and eight people were injured when a pillar of an under-construction bridge collapsed Sunday in Amroli area on the outskirts of this Gujarat city, the police said.

Fire brigade officials reached the accident site and rescued the injured trapped under the debris. The injured were admitted to the Surat Civil Hospital. The condition of three of them was serious, the police said.
