A woman suffering from recurring back pain attempted to end her life in Chhattisgarh after poisoning her three minor children, two of who died, the police said Thursday.

Radha Bai, 30, a resident of village Patora in Durg district, first offered poison to her two daughters and a son Wednesday and then consumed it herself.

Daughter Kiran, 9, and son Ishant, 7, died at a government hospital in Durg town Wednesday night while she and her younger daughter Jaya, 6, are battling for life.

Durg District Superintendent of Police Prashant Thakur told reporters Thursday that preliminary investigation suggested that she took the extreme step after failing to treat years of back pain.
