A young man was battling for life after being shot under mysterious circumstances in northeast Delhi, police said Wednesday.

'The victim, Imran alias Monu, 24, was taken to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital by his friend Naseer, 24, who told doctors that he was injured in a bike accident,' said a police officer.

However, when his bleeding did not stop even after several hours, doctors conducted a CT scan that revealed a bullet inside his head.

'After this, the doctors informed us at around 10 p.m. Tuesday. Imran is brain dead,' the officer added.

'When we questioned Naseer, he told us that the injury was due to a bike accident. So we asked him how a bullet had entered Imran's head. We have detained him for further questioning,' the police officer added.

Police suspect that the two were involved in a money-related dispute. Imran and Naseer together run a company which rents out taxis to private users.
