From correspondents in Uttar Pradesh, India, 01:30 PM IST

Floodwaters have entered seven villages in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district after the Soheli river's embankments collapsed following incessant rain for the past week. A flood alert has been sounded in 32 districts of the state, an official said Thursday.

Over 150 people in the seven villages have been affected by the flood. No casualties have been reported so far, officials said.

Pinky Jowel, district magistrate of Lakhimpur Kheri, told IANS: 'We have already ordered reconstruction of the damaged embankments.'

A flood alert has been sounded in 32 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Faizabad, Gonda and Bahraich, following incessant rain, officials said.

The level of water in the state's various rivers, including Ghagra, Sharda, Saryu and Gomti, has risen following the rain.
