A man axed to death his alcoholic father who turned down the family's request to give up drinking in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district, the police said Saturday.

The incident took place late Friday in interior Amabahar village in Dhamtari district, some 110 km from here.

The police have arrested Ramcharan, 35, for killing his father Murharam, 60.

O.P. Pal, district superintendent of police, told IANS that Ramcharan repeatedly hit Murharam on his head with an axe after he returned home in a drunken state and began fighting with the family members.

Murharam's neighbours took him to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
