Hooch making units of Bihar's influential MP's kin busted

From correspondents in Bihar, India, 06:02 PM IST

Four persons were arrested and a large quantity of illicit liquor was seized after excise officials raided two hooch making units, allegedly run by the son-in-law of ruling Janata Dal United (JD-U) MP Prabhunath Singh, police said here Friday.

Official sources said the units were owned by Raj Kamal Singh, son-in-law of Prabhunath Singh.

A senior official of the excise department said the unlicenced liquor units enjoyed 'political clout'. The MP is known for his muscle power.

Singh, who represents Maharajganj constituency in the Lok Sabha, is the deputy leader of the ruling JD-U parliamentary party. He faces over two dozen criminal charges, including for murder, kidnapping and extortion.
