Samajwadi Party legislator, brothers assaulted

From correspondents in Uttar Pradesh, India, 11:01 PM IST

A Samajwadi Party legislator and his four brothers were assaulted by employees of a company in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district Monday, police sources said.

According to sources, the incident appears to be a fallout of old business rivalry. Irfan Solanki, the legislator from Aryanagar constituency in Kanpur, alongwith his brothers had gone to the J.F. International company that supplies meat products in Unnao, 40 km from here, for sorting out financial issues with the firm.

The legislator and his brothers were attacked with shard-edged weapons in the company premises and suffered severe injuries, sources said.

All the five are admitted to the intensive care unit of a Kanpur hospital. The legislator's condition is said to be critical, sources added.
