An Indian Army soldier Tuesday shot himself with his service rifle at 16 Corps headquarters in Nagrota near here, defence sources said.

H. Musthappa of 9 Madras was declared dead when he was taken to an army hospital.

The sources said the cause of the act was not immediately known. A court of inquiry has been ordered.

With soldiers serving in Jammu and Kashmir committing suicide every now and then, the issue has become a matter of recurring concern to the milittary top brass.
