A nine-year-old boy, who was on his way to offer a `chadar' at a shrine, was run over Thursday by a truck on the Grand Trunk road here, the police said.

The accident occurred at 12 p.m. Thursday on GT road at Mohan Nagar.

Sandeep Gupta, 9, was on his way to offer a `chadar' at the shrine. When he was crossing the road, a truck coming from Ghaziabad hit him, a police official said.

Another boy, Kuldeep, who was accompanying him, shouted for help. Sandeep was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The truck has been seized, but the driver has run away.
