Pakistan foreign secretary in India for talks

From correspondents in India, 02:03 AM IST

Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir arrived in India Sunday afternoon through this land border joint checkpost to hold the fifth round of Composite Dialogue with his Indian counterpart at New Delhi.

'I have come here for the talks and I am hoping of good results from this meeting. Both India and Pakistan want peaceful atmosphere,' Bashir told reporters after crossing over into India through the international border at Wagah-Attari.

Bashir said that direct land trade between the two countries should be enhanced. He also said that trade should take place through the Hussainiwala border near Ferozepore besides the Wagah-Attari trade route.

About Indian prisoners languishing in various Pakistani jails, Bashir said a judicial inquiry was on in Pakistan to identify such people.

'Some fruitful results are expected on this front,' Bashir said.

Later, the Pakistani foreign secretary left for Delhi.
