Six Nepali girls detained, released

From correspondents in Uttar Pradesh, India, 03:00 PM IST

Six Nepali girls were detained here on suspicion that they were being flown to the Middle East for flesh trade but were let off after questioning 'as nothing suspicious' emerged, the police said Friday.

A team of the Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB), after a tip off from a NGO, stopped a bus Thursday afternoon and took the girls to the Ghazipur police station for questioning.

'The girls maintained that they were going to Dubai as they had a job offer,' police spokesperson Ghulam Abbas told IANS.

All of them possessed valid passports and nationality certificates. 'Both documents were issued July 22,' he added.

'Nothing suspicious emerged after their questioning. They were let off and asked to go back home,' said Akhil Kumar, Lucknow's senior superintendent of police.
