Youth's arrest triggers protests in Srinagar

From correspondents in Jammu and Kashmir, India, 03:43 PM IST

Police used tear smoke and batons to disperse protesters who Wednesday demanded the release of a youth arrested a day earlier.

Dozens of protesters took to the streets in Maisuma near the Lal Chowk city centre forcing closure of markets as they threw stones at the police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers.

The protesters were demanding the release of a youth allegedly arrested by police Tuesday.

Life was normal in the rest of the city.
