Such things as bribing jail keeper and enabling criminals to enjoy drinks and make plans using cell phones with master criminals outside jail is not surprising to thinking people who are watching our polity. After all most politicians are hardened crimnals, as is well known.

Mr Solomon must be given RI for life with expeditious trial without political influences so that too much proof is not demanded, since he himself has confessed the crime. As deterrent he deserves RI.

Many LTTE terrorists were able to dig an underground conduit from inside the central prison, supposedly a 'high security'jail, to outside, and made good their escape. That was several years ago. Political complicity and collusion with jail officials was rumoured but the news was given least publicity. Even if jails are a state subject, there must be a separate central, mandatory agency to keep a vigil on their ways and authenticate their 'pilfer proof' nature authentically.
