At least four people - two women and two children - were killed and over two dozen injured when a bus fell into a river late Wednesday evening in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh, the police said.

The private bus was going from Patan to Jabalpur, 375 km from state capital Bhopal, when the driver lost control and the bus fell into the river.

Two women and two children died on the spot, police said, adding that the injured were admitted to the Jabalpur Medical College-run hospital and a private nursing home.

The police have registered a case against the driver and the owner of the bus.
