Squads to nab owners of Chennai's fire-ravaged shop

Special teams have been formed to apprehend the absconding owners of the supermarket Saravana Stores where a fire tragedy this week claimed two lives, police commissioner R. Sekar said Saturday.

'The suspects used the time during their pending advance bail applications and have obviously dropped out of sight. Special teams formed for these purposes are tracking them and will arrest the duo before long,' Sekar said.

The Madras High Court dismissed advance bail petitions of the two owners Friday.

Meanwhile, sessions court here will hear the bail applications of the two senior employees of Saravana Stores Monday.

Additional director general of police in charge of fire services Shyam Sundar exhorted small and large commercial establishments based in the business district of T. Nagar to immediately initiate steps to voluntarily provide fire-escape facilities in their structures or face action.

Fire broke out in three storeys in Saravana Stores Monday leaving two employees dead. Two senior employees have been arrested for culpable homicide and negligence and are presently in judicial custody.
